Brow Lift | Eyelid Surgery with Dr. Marie Noland | Langley, BC
The brows and eyelids are typically the first facial areas to show signs of aging. As we age, collagen production in the skin decreases, causing the skin to lose its resilience and elasticity. Repetitive movements, sun exposure, genetics, and age all contribute to the decrease in collagen production, resulting in brows and eyelids that start to droop or sag, which can subsequently impact your appearance and may disrupt your vision. To help restore the youthful appearance of their eyes, many patients pursue a brow lift or eyelid surgery for renewed vibrancy and a refreshed look.
Board-certified and double-fellowship-trained plastic surgeon Dr. Marie Noland uses her artistic talents and advanced surgical techniques when performing brow lifts and eyelid surgeries. What Is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery, medically known as blepharoplasty, aims to reverse the effects of aging around the eye by targeting excess skin and fat and providing your appearance with a more rested and youthful look. Patients who pursue eyelid surgery from Dr. Noland seek it for one of two reasons: cosmetic blepharoplasty and functional blepharoplasty.
- Cosmetic blepharoplasty focuses on reducing signs of aging and improving the overall appearance of the eyes and face. The goal of aesthetic eyelid surgery is to refresh the appearance of the upper face. The optimal surgical plan will restore a refreshed look to the eyes without changing their expression or shape.
- Function blepharoplasties are generally recommended for medical purposes. They are commonly performed when excess skin on the upper eyelid becomes so heavy that it weighs down the eyelid and impairs the patient’s vision.
Eyelid surgery can address the upper, lower, or both eyelids to yield dramatic, anti-aging results. After thoroughly examining your eyelids and discussing your concerns, Dr. Noland will recommend the blepharoplasty procedure that is right for you.
What Imperfections Can Be Addressed with Eyelid Surgery?
When conducting an eyelid surgery, Dr. Noland will focus on treating the following problems:
- Sagging skin on the upper eyelids
- Bags under the eyes
- Puffy lower eyelids
- Fat deposits that lead to puffy upper and lower lids
- Hooded eyelids
- Impaired vision due to reduced visual field from excess skin
- Irritation caused by friction between the folds of the skin
- Discomfort from overused forehead muscles
- Facial expressions that often appear tired or anxious
What Can I Expect After My Eyelid Surgery in Surrey, BC?
Dr. Noland and her team will carefully monitor your recovery through in-office follow-up appointments. You will be provided with detailed aftercare instructions that may include a schedule of when to use cold compresses and lubricated eye drops. It’s encouraged to sleep on your back, wear dark sunglasses, and avoid strenuous activities for one to two weeks following your blepharoplasty procedure. By following these instructions closely, you can minimize potential side effects and achieve a safe and comfortable recovery.
How Is Eyelid Rejuvenation Achieved with Dr. Noland?
Dr. Noland performs blepharoplasties in her office under local anesthesia. By choosing local anesthesia, patients can avoid the common risks and complications associated with general anesthesia. Typically, you will only need two needle pricks on each side of your face, and the numbing medication will take effect.
Eyelid rejuvenation is achieved by performing one or more of the following techniques. Dr. Noland will remove excess upper eyelid skin and fat and reposition lower eyelid fat to eliminate dark circles or puffiness.
Upper eyelid incisions are placed within the natural crease of the eyelid. Any potential scarring is not noticeable when the eyes are open. Lower eyelid surgery that involves treating fat is typically achieved through an incision on the inside of the eyelid. To treat loose lower eyelid skin, an incision just under the lower lash line is used to tighten its appearance. These incisions heal extremely well and are difficult to detect.

What Is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift, also called a forehead lift or upper facial rejuvenation procedure, is a cosmetic procedure that addresses signs of aging on the upper third of the face, extending from the hairline to just above the eyes. A brow lift addresses wrinkles, lines, and skin laxity on the forehead and sagging brows, which can contribute to eyelid sagging. By tightening the tissues and muscles along the forehead, a sagging brow can be lifted, thereby eliminating excess weight put on the eyelids.
How Is a Brow Lift Performed?
Dr. Noland performs a brow lift using a minimal-incision method, endoscopic, or traditional method that starts at the hairline. The minimal-incision method is performed through a series of half-inch scalp incisions just above the hairline on either side of the temple. The forehead skin is loosened, lifted, and fixed into place with small dissolvable sutures. By carefully lifting the eyebrows, Dr. Noland can relieve the upper eyelids of the excess weight produced by drooping brows, allowing the eyes to open fully for an overall more youthful and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
The traditional method is reserved for patients over the age of 60 who have more advanced sagging along the forehead. A long scalp incision extends over the top of the head almost from one ear to the other. The forehead skin is loosened, and excess skin is removed, lifted, and then secured into its new position using dissolvable sutures.
There is also a less invasive method called an endoscopic brow lift that Dr. Noland may use to correct sagging eyebrows gently and naturally. This technique involves a tiny camera being inserted through several small incisions in the scalp to view the surgical site without causing unnecessary trauma to the area. The tissue under the skin is adjusted, and the incisions are closed. The endoscopic method allows for a quicker recovery as well as less numbness of the surgical site. Additionally, any scarring is hidden behind your hairline.
What Imperfections Can Be Addressed with Brow Lift?
Men and women choose to undergo a brow lift surgery because of the following benefits:
- Creates better arches to the eyebrows
- Reduces forehead wrinkles and lines
- Minimizes the look of tired or angry eyes
- Helps relieve upper eyelid hooding caused by pressure from drooping brows
- Natural-looking results
- Well-concealed and unnoticeable scarring
- Long-lasting results
What Can I Expect After My Brow Lift Surgery in Surrey, BC?
Brow lift recovery looks different for everyone, but most patients will need plenty of rest and cold compresses for a few days after their procedure. It is recommended to stay mildly active during the first week to encourage circulation throughout the body, but strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided for about one month to allow for thorough recovery. Dr. Noland will provide you with detailed post-op instructions for incision aftercare and which medications can help alleviate any discomfort.

Should I Combine a Brow Lift with Eyelid Surgery?
Many people who are unhappy with upper face laxity are often confused about which surgery will best address their aesthetic needs. A brow lift surgery is performed to fix drooping eyebrows, wrinkles along the brow, and forehead laxity. Eyelid surgery is performed when the signs of aging are limited to the upper and lower eyelids. Commonly, patients choose to combine these two procedures for more cohesive rejuvenation of their upper face.
Why Should You Choose Dr. Noland for Your Brow Lift or Eyelid Surgery?
Dr. Marie Noland’s passion for aesthetics started during her early education, where she developed her talent and interest in the arts. However, being raised in a medical family, she knew early on that she wanted to continue her family’s legacy of helping and healing people. Becoming a plastic surgeon offered her a way to blend her two passions as well as continue her mission towards helping people become their true, authentic selves.
